Hi Frank, The problem was that there was no records at all in the .dbf
file. I went to the FWTools website and got the latest version of GDAL as you
suggested (I had a slightly older version) and updated the gdaltindex file, I
then ran the script that Bart provided and the shapefile index for the ERS
imagery was created with the pathways included within the dbf J so it
worked! Thanks to Norman, Bart and yourself for helping me out with this
