Schedule: 9/80 with alternate Fridays off

_Job Description_
The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Coordinator performs technical and 
professional work and is responsible for the analytical, developmental, 
maintenance, training and support functions of the City’s GIS and GIS-related 
database systems. 

The City anticipates filling the GIS Coordinator position immediately on a 
temporary basis.  A recruitment to fill the position on a permanent basis will 
be held within six months.  The permanent position will include a very 
attractive benefits package, details of which are available on the City’s 
website.  The temporary GIS Coordinator will be encouraged to compete for the 
permanent position. 

_GIS Coordinator Responsibilities_
·Perform maintenance, design replacement and upgrades of GIS and Citywide 
geographic information databases and electronic files
·Provide user training and education of AutoCAD (Computer Aided Drafting) and 
GIS systems
·Assist, advise and train City Staff on GIS applications and project development
·Work with City staff to develop and maintain parcel development and geographic 
information for the City’s GIS and mapping systems
·Develop and maintain access to Internet GIS mapping capabilities
·Research public and private GIS data sources for possible city systems and 
staff applications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, abilities and 
experience: 

Working Knowledge of:
·Principles, practices and techniques of GIS technologies, related databases 
and programs, including AutoCAD 
·Methods of research, analysis and applications of GIS and mapping systems
·UMN MapServer or Autodesk MapGuide Enterprise desirable
·Internet technologies and Open Source Software desirable

Candidates must have the ability to:
·Communicate technical information effectively both verbally and in written form
·Work independently to handle multiple deadlines and projects to meet service 
requirements of City staff
·Research and make recommendations based on new technologies and applications
·Maintain composure in difficult situations and deal effectively with a wide 
variety of people and technical problems
·Work in accordance with established policies and procedures

_Experience and Training Guidelines_
Qualification for this position could include any combination of experience, 
education and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities. 

Education:
·An Associated Science degree or higher in Engineering or Computer Science

Experience:
·Three years of experience with CAD or GIS systems and relational database 
systems (e.g. SQL)
