Can anyone tell the strong points of using either MapServer or GeoServer

For what? As a source of entropy for a random number generator, they are equally good :)

Some things seem never to change:

- Mapserver has wider format support
- Mapserver has better raster support

- Geoserver has better WFS support

Mapserver's bad WFS support comes in the form of poor handling of complex Filters, occasional mis-implementations of XSD/GML pairing, and no support at all for WFS-T. Geoserver's raster support should get much better in the next few months as their raster branch moves into the main releases. Mapserver's range of format support will probably remain better for some time yet.
