Hi Jerry!

The best way to go for you is using a virtual format datasource like
described on:
http://www.gdal.org/ogr/drv_vrt.html

This way you connect to your SQL server database like:

<OGRVRTDataSource>
    <OGRVRTLayer name="mypointstable">
        <SrcDataSource>ODBC:SQLSERVER CONNECTION</SrcDataSource>
        <SrcLayer>worms</SrcLayer>
        <GeometryType>wkbPoint</GeometryType>
        <LayerSRS>WGS84</LayerSRS>
        <GeometryField encoding="PointFromColumns" x="x" y="y"/>
    </OGRVRTLayer>

If this won't work, nothing will!

Kind regards!
