Tim,

You probably need to make sure you are using all the gnu tools and not mix and matching the Sun and GNU tools. so try gmake instead of make. You might have issues with ld also It has been too long to remember what the differences are between the two.

More technical details would be helpful. I can offer my experience although it may not be applicable. I have compiled on Solaris 9 using the GNU make and ld. Be sure you are using GNU ld. The Sun version didn't work for me.
