How are you requesting the map file?

For example, if I have a test map file at /path/to/map/file/test.map on my
machine, and let's just call my machine myhost, and if I have the mapserv
binary in the appropriate cgi-bin directory for my webserver (*), I can
request it with:

  http://myhost/cgi-bin/mapserv?map=/path/to/map/file/test.map&mode=map

- Rich

(*) This location will vary depending on your circumstances. I am runing
debian 3.1 (sarge), with apache2 version 2.0.54-5sarge1, and with my
configuration (which might not be precisely the default),
http://myhost/cgi-bin points to /usr/lib/cgi-bin. This can vary depending
on
your OS and web server configuration. I would normally suggest trying a
simple hello world cgi script before trying to get mapserver working,
although
I suspect that if you're already getting a mapserver error message that
that's
not your problem.
