Could you amplify the binary program idea?
I can imagine what it is, but how would one proceed to actually do it? Can you
make changes in the file?

You can use a binary file viewing program. The
last time I looked,
the filenames were near the end of the file.
Entire paths are shown.
By using a sector editor (in an old version of
Norton Utilities) I
was able to change the paths of the files and open
the layouts.
From my experience, layout files are not very
useful long term. If I
make a bunch of layouts today, I will probably not
be able to open
any of them next year. I always store the maps
seperately, and a
paper copy of the layout so I can re-create it.
