Hey thanks VERY much for the answer.

I just want to write the state name out to a file.  I need the state name (of my current coord) in a string.

Thanks again.

depends on what you want to do next, where you want to
store/display that info...

easiest is probably to use

1.) taglayer() with the state value or

2.) selectbycoord() and then process the result

Operating under the premise that there are no dumb
questions I will
stick my head out.

In GISDK I goto a coord (imported data) draw a map
(everything is fine)
but how the heck do I find out what State I am in?
I assume, from the
State layer data view but I can't seem t get from A
to B.

I guess this would be easy and that there would be a
simple GISDK
function... if there is I sure can't find it.

Thanks in advance for any help.
