A related issue on the printing thread:

I often have this problem with Adobe Acrobat Distiller (which I use to
create PDF versions of maps). When I use the Print command and select
Acrobat Distiller as the printer to use, it will work about 30-50
percent of the time as long as I only use the default settings and name
the resulting pdf file with a single-letter file name.

But if I change any settings (such as shift from color to black and
white, or change from portrait to landscape), or if I give it a file
name with more than one letter in the file name, it fails over 95 % of
the time and I have to tell it to print again.

Thankfully I've figured out how to tell immediately if it's going to
work or be a problem: if it's going to work, the status bar at the
bottom of the maptitude window will run through the various layers being
printed, showing the name of each layer one at a time (but for only a
tenth of a second each or so). If it's not going to work, the "printing"
pop-up message appears for 10 - 30 seconds and then goes away, but
Acrobat never appears.

This problem only occurs with Maptitude, and I've encountered it over
100 times (for my work, I create pdf files from Maptitude or other
programs virtually every day). I have never encountered it in any other
program.

Obviously I've found a useful work-around, but I look forward to this
not being a problem in some future version.

Any tips would be welcome. On a related note, there was a discussion a
while back about "transparent" layers printing as solid when printed to
PDF. I hit this every time too. Did anyone offline find a solution?

Thanks!
