I may
be misunderstanding your request...so disregard if this is not what you want to
do
join
destination and source. if you don't have common field
then tag your destination with id of source then join the
destination and source...then make your selection sets....make your set active
and use fill -> formula and choose the source field you want. This way
you will fill only the values for that set and not others. you
can make multiple sets and fill away.

As the title suggests, I want to be able to tag a destination field
using a selection set from the SOURCE layer. I know this isn't
possible but I'd like to put it on the wish list. If anyone has any
quick work arounds (short of creating a new temp layer for each piece
of the source layer I want to use), I'm open to any suggestions.
