Mark,     How about selecting some by ZIP, or county,  maybe state  and updating those different groups.  I don't know how far your area covers  but it's a start.  If none of those are applicable  just do a manual select of smaller groups  and in the dataview  just show the selection to update.  after you are done  or you think you are  do a search on files where the tagged field is blank and run those.
