I'm trying to join a map to a datafile - using Census
Tract as the
join field.
My datafile is an MSExcel file - in which I have a
field
"NuCensusTract" - with format as text. (The Census
Tract number is 11
digits)
I save the xls file as DBaseV file - with resulting
field
characteristics as "Character" 11 width.
After opening my map file, I Dataview>Join and select
the ID field
from the Map (which is the CensusTract field) and then
open the
joining file - my dbf file - and the field
"NuCensusTract" is not a
visible selection. (The field is present in the file
when I open the
file - by itself, not attempting to join)
I have also tried using the xls file - creating a bin
file and using
that file to join - get the same reults - the
"NuCensusTract" field is
not a visible field to select.
What do I need to do to make the field visible for
selection from the
"join to" field dropdown?
