Hello! I have been working with TransCAD, which is very similar to Maptitude... I think you should export (as a DBD file)the area layer and then charge it to export as a shape file, I have done this and it works in TransCAD...
TransCAD creates latitude and longitude fields when you import a shape file and export it as a dbd file. I don't know how it works in Maptitude, but I think is the same. Try importing your polygon layer into Maptitude format and doing the export into Maptitude .CDF. If I export the layer a shapefile it won't let me add fields for lat and lon. It writes over existing fields with screwy numbers that I don't think are lat and lons.
