1. It would be very handy to be able to have a stat package connected to
Maptitude. This means that I could statistical procedures using what appears
in the dataview and anything linked to it.
For example I could make a map, do some GIS things and then use SAS to do
some SAS things to work with the dataview. I might carry out a regression
which would result in SAS output, or create some variables in SAS that would
appear in the dataview for mapping, or link some other data created or
imported into SAS with the dataview.
Right now I yo-yo back and forth exporting DBF files from Maptitude and then
importing in SAS, or vice versa. The Dimitri discussion reminded me of this
... shouldn't I be able to use Maptitude's hooking up to some database or
other to do this? Clearly I am demonstrating how little I know about this
... but how would I do it? Seems I should be able to get close to
replicating what I describe above.
Another choice for a stat package would be "R" which has strong spatial
analysis routines (and R is open source and a superb, totally first class
effort effort) http://www.r-project.org/ It is object oriented and its
"guts" are available for the asking for development. The graphics features
alone would be worth the effort of a direct connection to Maptitude.
Any ideas?
