We also ran across the same problem in writing Layers2PDF
(http://www.directionsmag.com/files/index.php/view/750). After
talking to Caliper, we determined that there isn't a solution.
Moshe's workaround was to simply rename the file from layout_name.pdf
to Layer_name.pdf after printing each layer. The relevant code can be
found around lines 690-703. Alternatively, if you're using
PDFCreator, it should be noted that 0.9.5 includes a counter as a
naming option, to help you avoid overwriting files, otherwise if you
have a layout_name.pdf file in the target location, it'll probably get
overwritten.
If you find a better solution, please, let us know.
