Mike,

I'm not running Vista, and I have never seen this *specific* error,
but it sounds like a permissions issue.

Maptitude creates a file with an ".err" extension to store the info
about your compile error; this file is overwritten each time you
compile and will cease to exist when you compile successfully.

If you don't have write permissions to the directory where Maptitude
wants to create the error file, the program won't be able to create
it. And Maptitude won't be able to find it if the file doesn't
exist.

So far as I understand it, Maptitude creates the .err file (when
needed) in the directory where the .rsc file lies if you are compiling
for "test" mode and in %USERPROFILE%\Application
Data\Caliper\Maptitude 5.0 if you are compiling in "immediate
execution" mode (it also saves a copy of the code in the execution
window to %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Caliper\Maptitude
5.0\exec.rsc). Or at least this is how Maptitude 5.0 behaves on my XP
box.

Try compiling from your desktop or another directory where you are
certain you have write permission. And if you're trying it in
"immediate execution" mode, try it in "test" mode instead (or vice-versa).
