Fellow Maptituders,

Did you ever want to copy an annotation from one layout to another? Perhaps you
have a copyright notice that you put on every layout and don't want to have to
set the font, color, fills, border each time? You probably do what I used to
do: save an existing layout as a template for reuse. But then you can't take
advantage of the file handle trick offered by the "new_layout" add-in (see
Message #4069 http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Maptitude/message/4069 and
http://www.directionsmag.com/files/view/new-layout-03/139546).

My new "Copy Annotation" add-in eliminates this trade-off by allowing you to
copy annotations (freehand text; freehand curved text; freehand shapes, lines,
and curves; freehand symbols; freehand bitmaps; and north arrows [maps only])
from one map to another or from one layout to another.

A few things to note about this add-in:

- You can copy map to map or layout to layout, but not from layout to map (or
vice-versa).

- You cannot copy maps from layout to layout. You also cannot copy map legends;
these are tied to their parent maps.

- Annotations copied from map to map will appear in the same spot on the world
(as opposed to the same spot on-screen). The copy will be a different size if
the scales of the two maps differ.

You may download this utility at the Directions Magazine website
(http://www.directionsmag.com/files/download/143273). It is Free and Open
Source (GPLv3 license).

P.S. Hopefully 6.0 will make this add-in obsolete. But if not, let's hope it
still works under 6.0!
