I've been attempting to merge all of the TIGER/Line Shapefiles using their 2011
Streets .SHP files. The problem I'm running in to is a .BIN file larger than
2GB. Maptitude 2012 & 6.0 both give the error ( Reference Info: dberr, 909. )
after letting the system attempt to complete the merge.
The TIGER/Line 2011 Street files (downloaded by county) are as follows:
3,221 SHP files
3,221 SHX files
3,221 PRJ files
6,442 DBF files
9,663 XML files
So
with 28,989 files totaling more than 16GB... this is becoming a huge
project.
The closest I've been able to come is to create the file in 2 pieces. States
01-29 and States 30-72.
Having them in 2 files isn't the preferred method.
I've also attempted to eliminate data from the DBF's to make the final BIN file
smaller. If I remove the FULLNAME field, which I need, the final file is
1,931MB which should be fine. However, I still get the error dberr, 909.
I had a similar problem last year when trying to merge all the 2010 Census
TIGER/Line files which I wound up having to pay ESRI to do for me. Caliper
support said that they were able to duplicate my error last year and were
sending it to development, but I never heard back after that.
Has anyone else attempted to do the same?
Or has anyone had any success at merging so many Shapefiles?
