My apologies for asking such a simple question, but I don't have a GIS
background and thought Maptitude would be easier to use. ;-)

I need an answer to the most basic of questions. What format does your data
need to be in when using an Excel spreadsheet? I'm not using sales data so all
the examples in the User Manual don't help me because they use zipcodes and
addresses. Instead, I'm creating data maps that use either states in the US,
counties in my state, or block groups/census tracts in my county.

For example, I'm trying to create a map of the US by state that shows the
income limits for Medicaid. I added the state FIPS codes as the first column
(01, 02, etc.), then the state name, then the income limit. But I'm frustrated
by my inability to create a very simple map that is color coded by these limits.

When I use the map wizard, it claims to find only 1 state and I think the map
is of the Washington DC area, so I know I'm way off base.

Any easy advice? You have my undying gratitude!
