I'm creating a map of annual child care costs by state for the entire United
States and need to include Hawaii and Alaska. When I see similar maps those
states are often included near the tip of California. What I'm masking is
Canada and Mexico. Perhaps there is an easier way of creating this.

I've been using the Quick Start, choosing "Map your own data", choosing my
spreadsheet, and mapping by state. I then choose "Show State boundaries with
your data attached" along with a color theme and the map that's created
includes Canada and Mexico, which I don't want when it comes time to insert
into my document. I can also get Alaska mapped this way but it comes with
Canada in between.

Unfortunately, this is one of the problems of being a one-person non-profit
with no funding for additional training. It means figuring it out by
trial-and-error!

Thanks for your help,
-D

Hi:

It seems from your description that you may not have to use the Mask tool at
all.

You can simply zoom to the area you want to save as an image and choose
File-Save As.

Otherwise, could you describe what you are trying to "hide" via the mask?
