Hi David, I've used a Lenovo tablet (pen) laptop for the last 8 years. The pen is compatible with the generic operating systems functions (Windows 7) but I hardly use the pen other than grading students works in Word or Pdf and signing documents or occasional digital drawings and photo shopping. Occasionally it's fun to use Maptitude with the pen touch interface and everything works just fine! However, the design of most software/hardware is mouse-click based so the psychological transition is difficult even though it works. The reason, I think is the size of the screen. A big table size tablet (32 inch or more) will be more accommodating to the haptic (touch and sense) interface. I'm waiting for Apple etc to convert these big screen TVs to touch screen tablets. Then I guess mapping etc will become more haptic friendly... and will be a win-win for GIS.
