Hi, Fabrizio! I wrote that *if* it's a concurrency related issue, it's only fixed in 10.4, not in 10.3.16.
Or it could be a new bug that we haven't seen before. You can try the pam plugin from 10.4. If it won't help - please report a bug at jira.mariadb.org, but be prepared that we might ask some questions there when trying to repeat the problem.
