Subject: Fundraiser thru Benjie delaPena - -Do you have $25 dollars to spare to
help save a child's life?

Note: forwarded message attached.

Dear Everyone

First of all, our family and I would like to wish you
a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Second, we would like to sincerely thank you all for
your efforts to help us get through this.

As an update, we seem to have found at least 3
potential matches from the US NMDP (national marrow
database program). This is positive news and maybe
one fourth the hurdle already. There is still one test
that they requested us to do through Singapore NUH.
We know that a BMT will still be a very complex
procedure, with its own set of risks. But the sooner
that a BMT is done, the higher chances of success.

Also, because FA is a complex disease. Our hema-onc
has been corresponding regularly with this very kind
doctor from Cincinnati Children’s, the best in this
area who has been studying FA for the last 20 years.
And for all his credentials, this doctor has been very
generous, dispensing medicine for Jack through email
and guiding our hema-onco through.

A BMT for an FA case has never been done in the Phils.
This much we know. The most aggressive in the field
is Asian Hospital. Also, the Phils. does not have a
national marrow database for donors guess why, because
the hospitals refrain from sharing databases. Too
much politics, I guess. Unbelievable but true.

Mommy (Juni’s mom) has not really been successful
reaching the major philanthropists like Oprah and the
Gateses. This is understandable because there are a
lot of “scammers” around. Those who have given to
Jack’s BMT fund are people who know us and can vouch
for us.

Friends say that the best way is to link to a
foundation who can in turn write to the major
philanthropists. Anyway, I am still trying my best to
reach Bobbit Suntay, ex Xavier principal who is in
Manila now and who put up Carewell Foundation since
his wife died of CA. I planned to meet him at the
Xavier Homecoming today but didn’t find the time (or
energy).

There are various fundraising efforts in the next two
months (courtesy of Ateneo/ UP friends, officemates,
and my mom’s UST med class)which hopefully should get
us near to $350K. Of course, we are always counting
on a miracle – which should be the best Christmas gift
of all time.

Benjie dela Pena, our good friend and ex-neighbor, who
used to be with Ayala Corp, Manila Water and AYLC has
initiated this. Benj is now based in DC with his wife
Vickie and their year old son, Teo.

If its not too much to ask, we hope you can forward to
relatives and friends in the US. Thank you so much.
May God bless you all!

Sincerely,
Babette & Juni Simbulan
