The move comes after MCI accepted an offer from Verizon. The new development marked the latest turn in a takeover that has persisted for seven weeks. In a letter to the MCI board of directors, Qwest issued the following statement: "In accepting Verizon's amended offer, the MCI Board has failed to take into consideration the significant additional value that the Qwest proposal delivers to your shareholders from projected synergies as compared to a merger with Verizon."
