TOP STORY - Today, the Federal Communications Commission
approved a measure that would require certain providers of VoIP phone
service to supply enhanced 911 emergency calling capabilities to
customers. In a statement, Kyle McSlarrow of the National Cable and
Telecommunications Association said, "Every customer expects 911 to
be part of their basic voice service and the cable industry has and will
continue to provide this essential service to our VoIP customers." Ed
Merlis, senior Vice president of government and regulatory affairs for
the United States Telecom Association, said, "Today's FCC meeting
shed light on a critically important issue in today's communications
market. We applaud the commission's quick action to ensure that all
service providers offer consumers access to emergency services."

>From this week's BRIDGE, focusing on video games available by cable
and satellite TV: "Mickey Kalifa, general manager for PlayJam
Worldwide, a division of OpenTV, says games available via interactive
TV 'could be the biggest revenue generative services for a platform.' He
cites numbers from U.K. satellite TV company British Sky Broadcasting,
which has a PlayJam offering available through iTV that - on average -
generates 25,000 to 30,000 paid games a day, and costs the user $1.10
(U.S. dollars) for each game." For more on The BRIDGE, and to
