Doug Shapiro of Banc of America Securities on Internet video: "CES
this week and Macworld next week are likely to feature a lot of
discussion about Internet-delivered video. The subtext of a lot of the
conversation will be that it is a way to cut out the cable or DBS
provider. We think this is a simplistic conclusion to draw from a very
complex dynamic. We have addressed this idea in detail before, but, in
short, we think the discussion overlooks a very basic question: Will
people cancel their pay TV subscription to watch Web video instead?
Only if it offers a better value and experience for consumers and
content providers think they can make more money than with
traditional distribution."
