--------------------------------------------------------------------- The Evening Bridge - February 09, 2006 --------------------------------------------------------------------- TOP STORY - Today, the Federal Communications Commission released a report that found a la carte programming options could provide substantial consumer benefits. Some in the cable industry disagreed, including Kyle McSlarrow of the National Cable and Telecommunications Association. McSlarrow said most studies conclude that mandated a la carte would be more expensive for consumers and result in less diversity in programming. "It is disappointing that the updated Media Bureau report relies on assumptions that are not in line with the reality of the marketplace," he said.

Among folks who are either subscribing to cable or DBS, or who plan to subscribe in the next six months, nearly two- thirds (60 percent) reported that the cable company in their area offers HD programming. That's a nice bump up from the 52 percent awareness of cable-HD which Leichtman found last year."
