TOP STORY - Today, the Federal Communications Commission released 
a report that found a la carte programming options could provide 
substantial consumer benefits. Some in the cable industry disagreed, 
including Kyle McSlarrow of the National Cable and Telecommunications 
Association. McSlarrow said most studies conclude that mandated a la 
carte would be more expensive for consumers and result in less 
diversity in programming. "It is disappointing that the updated Media 
Bureau report relies on assumptions that are not in line with the reality 
of the marketplace," he said.

News Corp. reported fiscal second quarter operating income was $920 
million and revenues increased to $6.7 billion. Income from continuing 
operations increased to $694 million --- XM said Oprah Winfrey will 
launch her own channel on the satellite radio service in September --- 
Soleil initiated coverage of Sony with a "buy" rating.

community: "In a recent study from Leichtman Research Group, 
consumers showed a reasonably strong awareness of high-def signals 
in their neighborhoods. Among folks who are either subscribing to cable
