I definetly think a multi-level sponsor membership is in order. Something
along the lines of

"sponsor" over X amount ($50-100?) - put them on a list on a sponsor page
towards the bottom, just the name of the individual or organization, nothing
more.

"Gold sponsor" over X amount ($500?) - give them space for a log, maybe set
a certain square inches of pixels - 500x500 or 1000x500 or whatever seems
appropriate/doable, oppertunity to further sponsor individual
events/publications etc (where there logo would be put in a place of
honor/significance)

"Premier sponsor" over X amount ($2-5000??)- space for a larger logo on the
top of the page, space for a blurb about their organizationn, etc - list
them by importance/amount donated from the top. Along with the same
oppertunities to sponsor events/publications/etc both individually and/or in
a series.

I really have no idea what would be appropriate amounts, just throwing out
random numbers as examples. Depending on how many sponsors Gnome has 2 or
even 3 seperate "sponsorship" pages might be in order to avoid
clutter/length (like maybe have the main sponsorship page be premier/gold
sponsors with a link to "other sponsors" with a simple list and more
information on how you can become a sponsor.
