It seems their linux team is quite separated from their main corporate teams and
has some very dedicated linux people there. So, perhaps now we might see more
activity from OOo.

Not sure. I think many of them are busy keeping their version of
unbreakable linux as this is a source of income for them. The also react
to change in the RedHat distro to keep their version up to date.
