Barnes & Noble launched the Nook e-reader device recently, just in
time to convince consumers to reconsider kindle purchases for the
holiday season
(http://lists.sugarlabs.org/archive/marketing/2009-October/002279.html).

Then, they were sued by their design partner
(http://lists.sugarlabs.org/archive/marketing/2009-November/002372.html).

And now, they have been panned by two of the most widely read tech journalists:

Perhaps they gambled that glitches could be ironed out by ship date?

>From a strategy standpoint, they may have been better off deliberately
shipping only a very few polished reliable units at the last minute,
creating a holiday crush and generating buzz, then fulfilling orders
from say February when no one cares about the date. Instead, B&N will
have an uphill climb to change perceptions that the Nook is slow,
unreliable, clunky, and expensive for what it is.
