This has probably been already noted. Previously, Google Docs (Drive) gave people the option of saving as "OpenOffice" format, not "OpenDocment Format" or "ODF". I just saved a document from Google Docs and noted that I can now save it as "ODF." So I did, and opened it cleanly with Apache OpenOffice.
