Dear Qt friends,

This is a short mail to give an update about the VLC community and its
use of Qt. It was suggested at FOSDEM to send info here, so I comply ;)

I don't know actually know what you can do about those infos, but here
there are anyway :)

So, VLC media player from VideoLAN moved to Qt platform, almost 5 years
ago, with a first public release in September 2008 (v0.9.2). It is using
QtCore and QtGui, on Linux and Win32. Mac still has its Cocoa GUI.

The last major release, 1.1.0, was out in June 2010. It has been
followed by 13 minor releases.
The total number of downloads, including updates, since that date, is
474 million. And 425 million of those are the Win32 version, using Qt.

Since this counts people multiple time, when they update, I also made a
count on a single version, since the last minor release of VLC: 1.1.11.
Since mid-July, in a bit over 6 months, we've seen 165 million downloads
of VLC 1.1.11 on win32, using Qt 4.7.2.

This is the end of 1.1.x though, since we will release 2.0.0 soon...

I hope the best for the Qt future,
