Figured I would go ahead and introduce myself to the list as well.
My name is Jeff Causey and I live in NC. I'm a CPA and currently
working as the CFO for a public housing authority. In the past I
worked as an assistant county manager and a couple stints as town
manager (all in NC). In all of these positions, but especially my
current position and the county position, besides handling all the
classic CFO stuff, I effectively had CIO duties assigned to me. I've
also volunteered with several organizations including stints as a
board member and a variety of officer positions (e.g. vice chair,
chair). Outside of work, most of my time goes toward my kids and
their activities (e.g. team manager for soccer team) or another of my
hobbies, my MINI. During the 90's I spent a lot of time doing on-line
sim racing (which is probably why I got fairly decent with my computer
skills - back in the day it was a challenge to build from scratch a
fast gaming machine and tweak a low latency 'net connection).
I discovered OOo circa 2003 when I started toying with Linux. Really
liked using it - even back in the 1.x version days it was more stable
than MSO for the work I was doing. Probably around 2005 I pretty much
switched over to OOo exclusively at both work and home, though at my
job now I am occasionally forced to use MSO (usually due to files sent
by HUD). My hope though is to eventually switch the organization over
to something else (now LibO!) and maybe even get us onto a Linux
solution for the desktop (a lot of Windows lock-in issues to deal with
though).
Not sure how long ago, but I got hooked up with the marketing project
for OOo. It was about the only place I could find that I thought I
could contribute some actual skills. With this latest change, guess
I'll be trying to contribute as I can for LibO.
Finally, glad to see that we have a dedicated US marketing list.
