Hi Peter. What do you use MS Office suite for? What version do you use?
I myself have dumped MSO for several years at this point. For Spreadsheet and Word Processing using .doc and .xlt files, I prefer to use LibreOffice. You can read and write these files easily. LibreOffice also has a Presentation module that works well with the Power Point file I have needed to edit. For the database work, I am not the one to talk to since I rarely do any of that, so you will need to get someone else to walk you through what Base can do for you instead of using MS Access. Since you currently have over 30 desktops and laptops with MSO installed [most likely] you can install LibreOffice on any new computers instead of buying a MSO license. Then you can install LibreOffice on your other computers, one at a time as you get time to do this. The great part about LibreOffice is that you can read/write MSO files so if some of your personnel and most of your clients use MSO, the other can still use LibreOffice to edit those MSO files. As for the Linux servers, well they are usually cheaper than using MS Server OS. So do not worry. Just to let you know, LibreOffice runs on more computer platforms, like Linux, that MS Office does: Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, and some other platforms. I run it on Windows Vista laptop and a Linux [Ubuntu] desktop. Each version looks and runs the same to me. Feel free to download and install LibreOffice on a few computers. Use it for some time to see how it goes. No need to uninstall MSO at this point. Once you decide that you like LibreOffice, then you can faze out MSO over time. That is what I tell my clients I support in Central New York State. On 02/14/2011 01:39 PM, drew wrote:
Hi, We are interested in your LibreOffice office suite. We are a small business, owned by myself along with my brothers and an uncle. We started as a commemorative stone engraving business 10 years ago, here in Little Rock, Arkansas. Today we supply cemeteries across a three state area, and have expanded into the commercial landscaping rock and cement form business. We employee less then 50 people, but with current projections expect to break the 50 employee barrier, adding the need for more structured accounting practices, sometime this year. We transfer all our information to a local CPA quarterly for taxes, payroll and cash accounts are maintained in-house on a system then our CPA helped us pick-out and setup 7 years ago. Currently we maintain 21 computer workstations in three buildings, at two sites in the Little Rock area. 15 latptops are also used by the sales force. 5 smart phones are used by our field sales force today, but they are not using them much for invoicing yet, something we are very interested in adding however. We use 2 servers at one of our locations and 1 server at the other, all three are maintained by one staff member and a contract with a local service provider. 2 of the servers are I believe running Linux (don't know what kind, I understand there are different kinds, right?) and one runs MS Server, some year..*smile*..I should know, that is the one I am 'on' all the time. *chuckle* So, can I just swap out MS for Libo and go? Thanks, Peter
