Hi Tim, Drew, Daniel
I just thought that I would start a new thread to continue our
discussions as it was getting a little too dispersed along different
threads.
Tim and Drew -- There is a section on the disk for additions open source
files (Extras section)[1] and we spoke about having Tim's page of FOSS
links on that section. You may be interested in this link about FOSS
directories and FOSS disks with software in ISO formats[2]
If Daniel joins the team, we will have all EN, ES (Daniel), FR
(Marc/Sophie, I believe) taking care of language and
translation/localisation. I would suggest we apply translation only from
the EN language to keep things as simple as possible rather than
localise ES, FR -- extensions/template will of course differ.
Extensions/templates -- if the ES, FR team members come up with
recommendations, these should be included, and, if this has an impact on
the disk space, the "Extras" section will see the removal of some of the
extra software to make space for them.
Windows installations account for 90% of our user base. We need to make
sure that the window installer works as flawlessly as possible.
Long-term maintenance of the DVD and updates: As Drew pointed out we
will have a need for some kind of team structure for the update and
maintenance of the DVD. We should endeavour to find members committed to
act as maintainers of the DVD as LibreOffice goes through version
upgrades as well as find ways to facilitate the easy updating of files
and translations on the disk. -- We will need a few members to round out
the DVD team. We should have at least 2 active member for each language
and of course members who have enough developer knowledge for the coding
aspect of the DVD project.
ISO availability. We should approach the TDF to see if the DVD could be
hosted on its servers just as the German LibreOffice-Box DVD ISO.
Otherwise, find other hosting service for the DVD.
Finally, the disk has so far been called the NA (North American) DVD. If
it looks like the NA disk could satisfy as a North/Central/South
American DVD that we may want to reconsider relabelling it as the
Americas DVD. This DVD would satisfy all of North/Central/South American
needs.
Cheers
Marc
