What do you mean by "defaulted to a version of FireFox"? What problem is
there in FireFox? Do you mean the lack of the run a file from a web
site's page? That is a major security feature that is a part of FireFox
and hopefully other browsers. That enabled with IE is a major problem
with automatically running executable codes and possible hacking
"nastiness". I would rather have the save to hard-drive first, then
execute. Microsoft Windows just added a security update that limits
auto-running files off external media, except Movie DVDs and Music CDs.
I have not tried auto-running from a thumb-drive, so I cannot know if
that works. So there is no fixing of FireFox. I do thing the
lower-skilled computer user may want to "download" the install file to
their hard-drive, then install it. We/I may need to add text to the
pages to deal with that type of issue.
Have someone looked at the web page logs to see what is the percentage
of the different browsers? There may be such a log option on the hosting
service. I do not remember if my current system has it, but I think it
should. With that log report, you can decide which browsers are most
likely used to access the site. I think that you should make the web
site/pages work for FireFox, IE, Chrome, Safari [Mac and Windows], and
Opera, Camino [Mac]. These seem to be the standard browser options. My
IE browser works with the DVD pages well with the German site's

page header script. I kept that in the HTML in the DVD pages I am
working with.

about installation problems but maybe I misunderstood. But as you say,
you may need to add text to the pages.
I'll try to get a Windows machine going at home, although it will only
be XP.
BTW ... on one of my sites Firefox is around 75% IE around 10%. But
this is a music site. Heh, maybe music people tend to use Firefox
more. Safari: .5%; Opera: .8% no data on Chrome yet.

The text would be some download instructions, like click on the link,
save onto your hard drive {maybe suggest some default folder}, go to
that folder and double click on the filename there to install the package}.
The LibreOffice.org site's instructions for Window seem to indicate that
you should download the install file[s] to your hard drive and then
browser to that folder to install your download file[s]. We could use
LibreOffice.com's text.
Actually, what do you think about having a PDF printout of the online
instructions on the DVD. I did that so you would not need to go online
to read any instructions. I want as much instructions and such on the
DVD so those who are installing LibreOffice, and the extra options and
packages, will not need to go to the Internet to get help for the
install. Some people I deal with do not have every computer in their
places connected to the Internet, or are just dial-up access users. Is
that not way we will have a DVD to be offered to be mailed to a
user/organization along with the option to download the ISO file or
download directly from the LibreOffice.org web site?

If drew did not leave for LAX yesterday, he might have had a big delay
leaving this morning. The weather/roads are so bad in my part of New
York State, that my aide cannot make it in. Only the "personal care
aides", needed for helping a person bath or other things like getting
dressed, are doing their best to get to their assignments. I am not
that far gone, so I do not have an aide today.
