Good -- the more eyes looking for the gems among those trunkfuls of costume
jewelry, the more we'll find. Copies of all surviving prior platforms are
at http://marketliberal.org/LP/Platforms/. I especially recommend mining
the 1990 - 2002 platforms, as the GH drafts so far have only used language
from the 1972, 2004, and 2006 platforms. For example, the 1990 - 1994
platforms contained a Children's Rights plank that was absent in the
already-mined platforms.

For the exercise of drafting a Greatest Hits baseline of purely prior
language and no attempted improvements through novel phrasing, you might
want to start with http://marketliberal.org/LP/Platforms/2007_baseline.html.
It's an open question whether any improvements via novel phrasing in the
remixed <http://marketliberal.org/LP/Platforms/2007_annotated.html> version
will be worth the extra suspicion that might be raised thereby, so we should
maintain both versions and can decide at the end which one (if any) to push
for.

BC> 1.3. Sexuality and Reproduction

WAS:

We favor the freedom of all adults to engage in any consensual amorous or
reproductive behavior or relationship that does not violate the rights of
others..

PROPOSED:

Individual rights should not be denied, abridged, or enhanced at the expense
of other people's rights, on the basis of . . . sexual orientation by the
laws at any level of government. [new section was in several old platforms].
<BC

The "sexual orientation" qualification significantly narrows the replaced
language, and thus appears to restrict the plank to LGBT rights. In the GH
<http://marketliberal.org/LP/Platforms/2007_baseline.html> baseline the
language corresponding to the novel phrasing about "amorous or reproductive
behavior" was this sentence that was new in the 2006 Platform: "Consenting
adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal
relationships." I prefer "amorous or reproductive" because "personal
relationships" is broader than the plank's title, but for the baseline draft
the latter still seems to be scoped better than the "sexual orientation"
sentence above. What do you think?
