Dr. Paul is a life member of the Libertarian Party. He spoke at the 2004 national convention of the Libertarian Party. He has been endorsed by Michael Badnarik, the 2004 Libertarian candidate for president, as well as by the late Aaron Russo, who was a contender for the 2004 presidential nomination.

When asked about his Libertarian presidential campaign, he stated that he took a year off from being a Republican, but is in no uncertain terms a Republican and NOT a Libertarian. BM) What Paul said was: "I've always been a Republican. I took a break, was in the Libertarian Party for that year. I've been elected to Congress ten times as a Republican. I've traditionally been a Republican." Stop the presses -- Seeker Of GOP Nomination Stresses GOP Ties. It's simply not true to claim that Paul told Leno he "always will be a Republican". Nor is it true that he specifically said he is "NOT a Libertarian". My understanding is that Paul holds a lifetime membership in the LP. You also neglect to mention that Paul has said he did not vote for George Bush, and that he refuses to say he will support the Republican nominee. It's self-marginalizingly silly to pretend that Paul is a generic Republican candidate, especially when he's been endorsed by Steve Kubby. BM) Funny, when I pointed that out, I got lambasted. (BM Please quote somebody "lambasting" you for saying that Paul is not a capital-L Libertarian. He's obviously not seeking the LP nomination, and he obviously considers himself to be more a GOP member than an LP member. I doubt that any LP supporter of Paul has ever disputed either point. The question is whether Paul qualifies as a small-L libertarian. BM) Nobody's lambasting Mr. Paul for making the same point that I made months ago, however. ;) (BM Quote a sentence you wrote "months ago" about Paul that we Paul supporters disputed. Then quote a sentence from Paul that now "makes the same point". Go ahead. Make my day. I dare you.
