For the people who say we should stay to help our "allies" in Iraq
and Afghanistan, I would like to point out some examples of how our
involvements came back to bite us later:

(1) Iran was our ally till the Shah was deposed and we had the
hostage crisis. He caused so much resentment among his own people
that it allowed Khomeni and the other militants to take power.
(2) In the 80s we sent weapons to Bin Laden and the Taliban to use
against the Russian Army, and the cost of that war helped Bankrupt
the Soviet Union.
(3) Saudi Arabia wasn't our friend during the oil embargo of the
70s, which should have been a wake-up call about the dangers of
depending on foreign oil. And 19 of the 9-11 hijackers were Saudi.
(4) Even Saddam Hussein, at one time was our ally. A fact many
people seem to forget. We backed his war with Iran, but as long as
he was gassing Iranians no one seemed to care. Then, like Manuel
Noriega he started getting delusions of grandeur and invaded Kuwait.
