I don't remember either of the Chair candidates talking about central LPCA coordination of sig-in-lieu operations. I'm quite confident Kevin didn't, because his policy is generally that this sort of thing should be handled by the counties. I tend to disagree, because of the economies of scale and because we can't expect every county to have the sort of sig-in-lieu operation that (say) Christ Schmidt runs up here in San Mateo County. Jim Eyer reminds me that he built an online system for candidates to enter data about their signers, but that almost none of us entered their data. I confess I didn't even save mine, mainly because Chris handled pretty much all of the signatures except for the handful I got from the usual suspects at LPSCC meetings. This time around, we should all resolve to at least use a digital camera to take photos of the signature sheets we submit, so that we at least know the data is recoverable by anyone who wants to get a sig-in-lieu operation up and running. My signature status is that I have about 8 from an LPSCC meeting, and will get a few more at tomorrow night's election night party. Chris is mailing to several hundred prospects from his 2002-2006 operation, and I expect he'll get me at least the 40 I need for nomination.
