Postdoctoral Research Associate - Marine Mammal Habitat Modeling University of Miami, Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies
Position #034423 Ph.D. Degree in Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Statistics or related field required. Strong quantitative and statistical skills required with experience developing spatially-explicit habitat models and working with geographic information systems. Experience working with remotely sensed environmental data and incorporating these into spatial models is also required. Programming capability in R, Matlab, IDL, C++ or other common languages is strongly desired. Position #034423. Duties include: analyzing marine mammal data collected during line transect surveys to develop spatially explicit habitat models. Project outcomes will be used to describe and predict the spatial distribution of marine mammals for use in environmental assessment projects. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, are required. Ability to travel is required to meet with project partners and occasional participation in field work. This position is located in CIMAS, a Joint Institute of the University of Miami and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The person hired into this position will work closely with scientists in the National Marine Fisheries Service, Southeast Fisheries Science Center, Protected Resources and Biodiversity Division located on Virginia Key.
