Externship Program The veterinary externship program is open to students who will be in their third or fourth year of veterinary studies at the time of their stay at The Marine Mammal Center. Resumes/applications for externships are due by February 1st, ONE year prior to the planned externship. For example, applications for the spring/summer of 2010 are due by February 1, 2009. Applications should include a letter of intent, curriculum vitae (resume), and two letters of recommendation. Students will be notified of their acceptance into the program by the end of April, one year prior to the planned externship. Externships are unpaid positions.
Externships are scheduled for three-week periods between March 1 and September 15 of each year. Students should plan to spend a full three weeks at the Center. Shared housing is available at no cost in the Center's Extern Housing Unit located within the Marin Headlands. Transportation is the extern's responsibility; there is no public transportation to the Center. Priority for assignment to the best time slots is according to rank during the selection process.
