Sea Otter Research and Conservation - Unpaid Animal Care Intern Organization: Monterey Bay Aquarium Location: Monterey, CA, United States Job or Internship: Internship
The Monterey Bay Aquarium's Sea Otter Research and Conservation program is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to assist SORAC staff with the care for and release of sick, abandoned, or injured sea otters. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, daily care and feeding of sea otters in a rehabilitation setting, maintenance and cleaning of animal tanks and enclosures, and computer data entry. Interns may also assist with the tracking of released otters and the administration of medicine to sick otters. Qualified applicants must be able to work in a team environment, must be able to work independently without direct supervision, and must have good communication skills. Requirements: * 6-month commitment of 24-32 hours each week. (Extension beyond the first 3 months dependent upon performance review by SORAC staff.) * Ability to lift 50 lbs. * Proof of current tetanus vaccination * Valid driver's license * Willingness to work a set schedule, weekends and holidays as assigned Preference will be given to applicants who have at least 2 years towards a college degree in a biology-related field and to those who have previous animal care experience.
