Dear Marmamers,

a stranding of a humpback whale took place in Libya last week. the carcass was discovered in Sirt (the same area which had seen a stranded finwhale in 2009) accidentally last Wednesday by one of the locals and reported the incidence to the coastguards. a team from EGA (the Environmental General Authority) arrived in the area to collect samples and preform a necropsy. however, the animal was heavily decomposed and only samples of skin, blubber and vertebrae were collected.
