BIOLOGIST POSITION The Naval Undersea Warfare Center located in Newport, Rhode Island, is seeking qualified candidates with environmental planning and marine science skills to serve as a lead in support of various U.S. Navy environmental planning projects. Job tasks will be geared towards the needs of Fleet/NAVSEA customers and teaming with other Navy service providers for biological analyses, marine species monitoring, and overall compliance with NEPA, EO 12114, ESA, MMPA, CZMA.
Duties associated with this position include (1) investigating and developing assessments for compliance with environmental regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act, Executive Order 12114, Endangered Species Act, etc., (2) Assisting in the development of high quality environmental planning documentation through the integration of scientific analysis and results, (3) Providing technical support on environmental legal issues or disputes, and (4) Developing plans designed to minimize environmental impact from proposed activities. Experience or knowledge of the following is highly desirable: project management; marine mammals; sea turtles; principals of underwater acoustics; statistical principles and methods; Esri GIS products; environmental legislation and DoD/Navy policy. This is not primarily a field biologist position, but there are opportunities for field research.
