M.S. position available at the University of Alaska Fairbanks

I am pleased to announce the availability of a M.S. in Fisheries position with
the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (SFOS) at the University of Alaska
Fairbanks (UAF) starting in Summer 2016. The goal of the project is to assess
the ecological costs and educational benefits of whale-watching in Juneau, AK
using theodolite observations of humpback whales and passenger surveys. Field
work for this project will occur during the summers of 2016 and 2017.

This project is funded by Alaska SeaGrant
(https://seagrant.uaf.edu/news/fishlines/2015/november.php). The research
assistantship available for this position includes tuition, health insurance,
and a stipend for 2 years. In addition to meeting the UAF and SFOS graduate
admission requirements
(https://www.uaf.edu/sfos/academics/apply/graduate-fisheries/), students should
have experience conducting behavioral observations of marine mammals and strong
quantitative skills. Previous experience in photo-identification, theodolite
tracking, and humpback whale behavioral ecology is also desired.

Applications may be submitted through the UAF admissions website:
http://www.uaf.edu/admissions/apply/#new. The deadline for Summer admission is
