Island Dolphin Care in Key Largo, Florida is hosting an Introduction to Marine
Mammal Medicine course. This course is an incredibly hands-on, and unique
opportunity for any student wanting to learn about and participate in marine
mammal health and medicine. Applications for our course are being accepted
right away.
Course highlights:
* Week-long summer courses:
* Summer I: July 15th - 20th, 2019
* Summer II: July 22nd - 27th, 2019
* Cost: $1,225
* Housing and educational materials are included in the cost
* Students will learn:
* Anatomy & physiology
* through lectures & hands-on ultrasound experience
* Health assessments
* students perform daily physical examinations
* Husbandry & behavioral/training basics
* through discussions & assisting training staff
* Lab skills
* students will learn to prepare & analyze dolphin blood smear
* Various other topics including:
* animal welfare, common marine mammal medications and treatments,
analyzing ultrasounds and writing reports, diet preparation, etc.
* Certificate of Completion earned upon successful completion of the course
