This position is one of three branch chiefs in the Protected Resources
Division (PRD) within the Alaska Regional office of NOAA Fisheries. This
position is currently held by Greg Balogh who is slated to retire this
October. Staff in PRD work on a variety of projects and actions, including
working to minimize interactions between marine mammals and commercial
fisheries; promoting responsible marine mammal viewing practices;
coordinating response to stranded or entangled marine mammals; consulting
with federal agencies to minimize project effects on threatened and
endangered species; cooperatively managing subsistence use of marine
mammals through co-management agreements with Alaska Native organizations;
and responding to petitions and lawsuits that have very short turnaround
times. PRD is structured in a matrix management in that all three branch
chiefs work with all staff across the branches. No one branch specializes
in a discipline although the branch chiefs do specialize (ESA Section 7
consultation, recovery, and deputy duties). *This position also serves as
the Endangered Species Act Section 7 Coordinator which is where the
majority of the duties lie outside of supervision. *This position requires
you to be good at juggling a wide diversity of tasks, timelines, and
personalities. At this time, this position supervises 5 permanent staff,
and oversees the work of several contractors.

To apply for this position you must be a U.S. Citizen. You will also need
to be located in either Anchorage or Juneau to perform the job.

Please help spread the word! Thanks!
