Dear MARMAM Community,
We would like to announce that we will be hosting a workshop on the
entanglement of large whales in trap/pot gear at the biennial conference, which
is being held this November in Perth, Australia. If you are interested, then
please read on and let us know of your plans - see questions at end.
The full-day workshop will take place before the conference on Sunday, November
10th at the conference venue (Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre).
The purpose of the workshop is to bring together a range of stakeholders from
around the world to share their knowledge and experience with a range of topics
associated with the entanglement of large whales in the fishing gear used by
pot/trap fisheries. In addition, we welcome the participation of newcomers to
this issue who are looking to learn from the experiences of others. We hope
that the workshop will catalyze the creation of a network of individuals who
will continue to share their knowledge and experiences, leading to an improved
understanding and mitigation of entanglement of large whales in trap/pot gear.
The workshop will likely include a few presentations, a lot of discussion, and
some planning of additional actions aimed at connecting people. At this time,
there are not any plans to make the workshop available online; in other words
participation will be in-person only.
Please let Dennis know if are interested in attending, what experience you
would bring, what topics you would want to discuss, and what you might want to
get out of the workshop.
Thanks for your attention,
