Summary of Job Responsibilities - Regional Stranding Coordinator, Pacific 
Islands Region
This position serves as the Regional Stranding Coordinator (RSC) for the NOAA 
Fisheries, Pacific Islands Region. The RSC ensures coordination of marine 
mammal stranding response across Hawai'i, American Samoa, Guam, and the 
Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and works with NOAA 
island-specific coordinators on O'ahu, Maui, and Kaua'i. Under the MMPA, the 
RSC is designated with specific responsibilities including serving as the lead 
for developing and overseeing Stranding Agreements with external partners for 
marine mammal response, and receiving, evaluating, and preparing marine mammal 
parts authorization letters. The RSC also serves as the regional representative 
for national initiatives and grants, and as a point of contact with other 
agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard and Navy. A key aspect of the RSC’s 
work in the Pacific Islands Region will be to work closely with Native Hawaiian 
and Territorial partners to develop and increase partnerships and collaboration 
on marine mammal stranding response, particularly cetacean stranding response.
